My kids have an open cage they set outside and the gerbils eat all the grass and weeds down to the ground.

I was actually born and raised in Orange County. What part of LA do you live in? Most of my relatives are still out there.

Where in Tennessee are you guys planning on homesteading?Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08769464380898512642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-187799861637292770.post-38695774434604792352010-07-13T18:39:09.699-04:002010-07-13T18:39:09.699-04:00I'm so glad I found your blog!
We currently ...I'm so glad I found your blog!
We currently live in Los Angeles, but we're packing up and moving to middle Tennessee this month. We're going to be homesteading too. We love reading everything we can on the subject.

A great idea for your gerbils is to feed them your left over raw veggies (carrot ends, cucumbers pieces, discarded apple cores, corn cobs, melon rinds) as well as edible weeds and plants that grow wild--like dandelion leaves. The kids will have fun foraging for their meals. Each morning, my oldest son feeds our pet rats all of the beetles that collect in our inflatable pool every night. The rats love to eat beetles. We just put them in their cage floating in a bowl of water. The rats fish them out and eat them. Grubs and other insects are also good to feed the gerbils if you find them in your garden. We do supplement with raw grains and sunflower seeds as well, but this cuts down on the amount we go through.MCarpenterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16674627809293464202noreply@blogger.com
