Part II of Drifters is now finished.
I think I've come to my senses when it comes to the Tennessee property, and wish I had sooner. I'm done with the barn. I'll go up in March for 10 days and build the addition for the cabin. It's much better to go ahead and finish the cabin and have a comfortable place to live up there than to keep tinkering with the barn. I can always seal the building again if I need to.
The pier foundation for the addition is already finished. I'll frame the floor, put in stud walls, 2x8 rafters, and the metal lean-to roof. Once that's done I'll put up the siding, then plumbing and electrical. The sooner we have the comforts of home up there it'll feel like home:
It's good to see that your dream is coming into reality. The house looks beautiful. I am very envious. Especially, you did it on your own is more satifying I am sure of that. It is also good to hear that you are still in contact with Seth. I am still catching up with your blogs. Stay safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should know, but 'Anonymous' is . . . ?
ReplyDeleteLol, sorry Rob. Very clumsy of me. It has been long time. I use to play tennis with you. My name is Song. (asian, name says it all) If you remember me. I use to play tennis with you sometimes in High School. Seth and Mike were pretty close when I was in school with them.
ReplyDeleteSong [Sam?],
ReplyDeleteOf course I remember you. Mike's in the army - Iraq right now I think.
Send me an email and let me know what you've been up to the last 15 years.

Federal Prison for last 15 years. Just got released in good behavior. Although, I think they release me due to heavy population. Just kidding, I will send you an email soon.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! LMAO! Sorry, the comments cracked me up. Cabin is looking good Rob! I think you're making the right choice. The weather has been unusually crappy up there this year. In the seven years I lived in TN, we didn't get as much snow as they have in the past year! =\ Hang in there ... enjoy the journey... live in the moment! =]
ReplyDeleteWow, what an inspiring story! You folks sure have come a long way in life. I admire your diligence and boldness. I can relate to a lot of your story, I was born and raised in Lebanon County PA, Moved to Maine, got married and eventually moved to Washington CO. Tennessee, where we still reside. We live in a small apartment, and are looking at a 2 story run down home in the "sticks" on 8 acres. Homesteading is something we wanted to do for years, but a steady job kept us in the city-I am now unemployed-layed off. I found your web site while doing a search for "Gambrel roof style". The house we are looking at has a Gambrel-I like it, wifey says it looks like a barn-lol. I am truly amazed at your story and would like to meet your family one day. Blessings, ceh717@msn.com
ReplyDeleteI'm looking to move up to the property the 1st of May to get the cabin finished.
